Spacetalk watches and SIM cards
Buying a plan on the Spacetalk website doesn’t automatically include a SIM card — for both handset and wearable plans, SIMs are supplied separately. If you bought a Spacetalk watch, a SIM is included and pre-inserted.
Most Spacetalk wearable devices sold after March 2024 are soft-locked to the Spacetalk Mobile network, so they only work with a Spacetalk SIM. To use the watch you’ll need either a Spacetalk Watch Subscription (added in the app during pairing) or a Spacetalk mobile/wearable plan.
What happens if I use a different SIM?
With a non-Spacetalk SIM in the watch, it won’t pair to the app, because the device is designed to work with our SIMs and network.
If you already have an active SIM
If you’re using a non-Spacetalk SIM that’s already active, the pairing flow lets you continue: when no Spacetalk SIM is detected on your account, choose “my SIM is active” to keep going without us supplying a number. An unlocking fee may apply (see below).
Activating your Spacetalk SIM
For the best experience, we recommend activating the Spacetalk SIM that came with your watch. During activation, you can port your current number or take a new one. Activate at:
Australia — in the app, or Activate your Spacetalk Mobile Plan
USA — spacetalkmobile-us.gigs.com
UK — spacetalk-uk-phone.gigs.com
Soft-locking & unlocking fees
If your SIM is active but the watch still won’t pair, check it’s a Spacetalk Mobile SIM. Watches are soft-locked to Spacetalk Mobile plans in applicable countries — without one, the watch won’t pair. You can pay an unlocking fee (chat to Support):
Country | Unlocking Free |
Australia | AU$80 (devices purchased from Telstra or Optus are unlocked) |
USA | US$60 |
UK | GB£40 |
Didn’t receive a SIM?
If your watch didn’t come with a SIM, or you’ve lost it, contact Support and we’ll arrange a replacement — or order a compatible Spacetalk SIM from the website.
