Note: From 15 Nov 2025, you will no longer need a voucher to activate a mobile plan. If you have purchased a mobile plan but have not activated your voucher, log into the Spacetalk app to activate your plan using the instructions below.
This article is for Australian Spacetalk Mobile customers that have purchased a mobile plan from our online store. If you haven’t purchased a mobile plan but want to activate a new plan use the Adding a plan guide.
Congratulations on your new Spacetalk mobile plan! To get your plan set up and start using your watch, you will need to activate it. This article will guide you through the process step by step.
You can activate the plan from either your Spacetalk App or from the online web app.
Activate from the Spacetalk App
Step 1: Open you Spacetalk App and log in
Select Membership on the bottom.
Step 2: Activate new SIM
When you buy a plan from our online store, your Mobile Membership will be automatically updated to list this in Your SIM Plans, so long as you have signed into the app with the same email you purchased the plan with from the website. This would be shown as Activate new SIM. Tap on this to start the process.
Please note, if this option is not available, this may be because the email used to purchase the plan is not the same as your Spacetalk app account. To transfer the plan to this account follow these instructions: How to Transfer a plan I purchased.
Step 3: Choose between physical or eSIM
Select which SIM you want to activate: physical or eSIM.
If you ordered a physical SIM, you need to have this before you can continue.
For Spacetalk Watches:
If you purchased a Spacetalk watch, the physical SIM is already inserted into your watch. Choose 'Physical SIM' and enter your SIM number. Your SIM serial number is a 13-digit number. You can find this located on the SIM card inside the box your watch came in or on the sticker on the side panel.
Please note that eSIMs will not work with your Spacetalk smartwatch, so be sure to select the correct SIM type.
Step 4: Confirm your identity (first plan activation only)
If you are activating your first Spacetalk mobile plan, you will need to update your identity details. Choose between drivers licence, passport or Medicare details.
Step 5: Choose a Phone Number
Next choose a phone number from the list provided. If you prefer, you can also port your existing phone number in from another carrier. See Porting your number for more details.
Step 6: Confirm your plan
Confirm your plan. Understand our terms and conditions and accept them when ready.
Step 7: Add Your Payment Method
All our plans are on Auto Recharge, you will need to add a payment method. This is necessary even if you entered a voucher code earlier. We accept Visa and Mastercard. You can always update your card details in your Membership page later.
Step 7: Congratulations, Your Plan is Activated!
Your new plan should activate shortly, usually within 5 minutes. However, during busy, it may take up to 4 hours. We will keep you updated on the progress of your activation via email and SMS. If your new plan is not active in 4 hours, chat to us to see what's going on.

Activate from the Spacetalk Web App
Step 1: Log in to your Spacetalk Web App
You can log into your Spacetalk Web App via our website: app.spacetalk.co
Once logged in, select your available SIM plan under Your SIM Plans
Step 2: SIM Details
Select between activating a physical SIM card or eSIM
Make sure to tick the ‘My device is compatible’ box to proceed.
eSIM
Once selected you’ll be sent a QR code to your email address. Please scan this with the device you wish to use the eSIM and follow the prompts to finalise the activation
Physical SIM
If you’re trying to activate a physical SIM card, please continue with the steps below
Step 3: SIM Number
Enter the number of your physical SIM card to continue activation. The SIM number can be found in the box with your Spacetalk watch, or on the SIM itself.

Step 4: Identity Access
Enter your personal details, as well as your identity type – this can be your driver’s license, Medicare card or passport.
Please note: It’s important to enter your personal details as they are displayed on your chosen identity type, if you do not enter your full name the identity check will decline.
Once your identity check has been successful, you’ll be able to proceed.
Step 5: Your Spacetalk Mobile Number
You have two options when selecting a phone number for your SIM, you can select a new number or port an existing number.
New Number
You can select from a list of new numbers – these are randomly generated each time you activate a service. If you start activating a service and pause to start again later, there is no guarantee that you will see the same selection of numbers.
Once you’ve selected your number, click Continue
Port Number
It’s important to note, if you’re activating a SIM for your child and they’ve never had a mobile service before, you’ll need to select a new number. Only port your personal number if you’re planning to use the SIM for your own service.
If you’re porting a number for your child, it will need to receive a pre-port activation code to proceed. This will be sent to the number via SMS and you can enter the code into the web app to proceed.
Step 6: Confirm Plan
Your purchased plan will appear – here you can view the plan details and critical information summary. Click Agree and Confirm
Step 7: Confirm Payment Details
All our plans are on Auto Recharge, you will need to add a payment method. This is necessary even if you pre-purchased your plan – no additional payment will be taken during this time. We accept Visa and Mastercard. You can always update your card details in your Membership page later.
Step 8: Done
Once you’ve entered your payment details your request to activate your SIM will be processed. Typically this can take between 15 minutes to 1 hour – you will receive notifications on the progress of your activation via SMS and email.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does activation take?
A: Activation is usually processed within a few minutes but may take longer during peak periods.
Q: Can I use an eSIM with my Spacetalk smartwatch?
A: No, Spacetalk smartwatches are compatible only with physical SIM cards.
Q: What should I do if I didn’t receive my SIM card?
A: Your mobile SIM plans do not come with a SIM. If you have a Spacetalk watch, a SIM is included in the watch. If you purchased a handset plan and require a SIM, you will need to purchase a SIM card. If your SIM card is faulty, chat to our Support team to request a replacement SIM card.
Q: Can I use a SIM card from another carrier?
A: Yes, but the watch must be unlocked, and the SIM should be activated with the carrier before inserting it into the watch. See Using a different provider.
Q: What are the limitations of using third-party SIMs?
A: Non-Spacetalk SIMs do not include a free Spacetalk app subscription. You will also need to unlock the watch and unlocking fees apply. Activating your Spacetalk SIM through the Mobile Portal or the app ensures optimal functionality. See Using a different provider.
