Members and account types in your Space

The different types of people in a Space and what each can do.

There are a number of different user types in the Spacetalk app. Spacetalk sets the right account type for the people you add, based on their age and device, so you don’t have to.

Space admin

When you create a Space, you’re its Space admin. As a Space admin, you have full control of that Space — inviting people, adding Places and Routes, and managing what the Space shares. You can also assign other adults as admins, so they can help manage the Space. Admin abilities apply to that Space specifically — you might be an admin of one Space and a member of another.

Members

Members take part in a Space. They can edit their own sharing settings for the Space, but can’t change the Space’s settings or manage other members.

Kids under 13

When you add a kid or dependent, Spacetalk sets up the right kind of account for them. For kids under 13 (in Australia), this is an account you fully manage on their behalf — you control their profile, device and what they share. They can stay connected and use the Space’s features, but can’t manage members or settings themselves.

When you add a kid under 13, you also become their admin. This role lets you control which Spaces they join and what they share in each Space. You can assign this role to other members too — great for sharing management with another parent or carer.

You manage their settings from your Profile — see Manage a kid or dependent’s settings.

Independent members (13 and over)

Kids and dependents aged 13 or over get their own account when they accept your invite. They can take part in Spaces and be invited to others, but can’t create or manage other members.
