Australia: eSIM

What an eSIM is, and how to receive, install and manage it on your Spacetalk Mobile service.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your device, so you can join the Spacetalk Mobile network in minutes without waiting for a physical SIM to arrive.

  • It's a small chip embedded in the handset — you can't remove it and put it in another phone, but the information on it is rewritable, so you can change network without swapping a physical card.

  • An eSIM can be re-installed: if you lose or damage your handset, the service can be installed on any compatible replacement device.

  • It's still a single service — you can only have one active SIM (physical or eSIM) for your number. You can't have the same number on both a physical SIM and an eSIM.

Note: eSIM is for handsets only — Spacetalk watches aren't eSIM compatible (they use a physical SIM).

How you receive and install your eSIM

  1. Set up your plan and activate it in the Spacetalk app, choosing eSIM at the SIM details step. See Buy A New Plan or Activate your Purchased Spacetalk Mobile Plan.

  2. We'll email your eSIM QR code to the email address on your Spacetalk account. Once your plan is active, install the eSIM — open the email and scan the QR code, or follow the on-screen steps on your phone.

  3. We'll confirm the eSIM is installed before your service is fully ready. If it doesn't install after a few tries, we can issue a new SIM.

Switching between eSIM and physical SIM

You can move your number between an eSIM and a physical SIM using Replace SIM in the app. See Australia: Swapping between eSIM to a physical SIM.
