How does the Buddies feature work on the Spacetalk watch?

How Buddies works — letting watch wearers request to connect with each other through the Spacetalk App.

The Buddies feature lets Spacetalk watch wearers request to add another watch wearer as a contact. Both Loop and Adventurer watches support Buddies. The request is sent to the Spacetalk App for a parent or admin to approve before any contact is established.

How a Buddy request works

A Buddy request is always started from a Spacetalk watch — watch wearers cannot initiate it from the app themselves. Both children must have their own Spacetalk watch for Buddies to work.

Step 1: The request is initiated

Child 1 opens the Buddies feature on their watch. When their watch detects Child 2 nearby, Child 1 selects Child 2 to send a Buddy request.

Step 2: Parent of Child 1 is notified

The parent of Child 1 receives an in-app notification:

"[Child 1's name] has requested to add [Child 2's name] to a Space."

A new Space labelled "[Child 1's name] + [Child 2's name] Space" is created in the parent of Child 1's app.

Step 3: Parent of Child 2 approves or declines

The parent of Child 2 receives a prompt in their app:

"[Child 1's name] has requested [Child 2's name] to join their new Space."

  • If approved: A new Space labelled "[Child 1's name] + [Child 2's name] Space" is also created in the parent of Child 2's app. The children can now contact each other.

  • If declined: No new Space is created for Child 2. Child 1's Space remains, but it will be empty.
