From 1 July 2026, Australian telecommunications providers are required to label any SMS from an unregistered sender name as "Unverified". Spacetalk submitted our registration but it was not approved by the 1 July deadline. As a result, some text messages from Spacetalk — including one-time passcodes (OTPs), account notifications, and automated messages — may temporarily show as "Unverified" instead of "Spacetalk".
Important: These messages are still genuine. The "Unverified" label reflects our sender ID registration status with the carrier network — it does not mean the message is a scam. If you have requested an OTP, password reset, or account notification from Spacetalk, a message labelled "Unverified" arriving shortly after your request is safe to use.
Why this is happening
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) now requires all businesses sending branded SMS to register their sender name on the official SMS Sender ID Register. Unregistered sender names are labelled "Unverified" rather than blocked, and may be grouped alongside other unverified messages in your phone's messaging app. This is a carrier-level and device-level labelling change, not something specific to Spacetalk's systems.
What you may notice
Text messages from Spacetalk showing "Unverified" instead of the Spacetalk name
OTP and verification codes arriving under the "Unverified" label
These messages being grouped with other unverified or flagged messages in your messaging app
What to do in the meantime
Check your messaging app's main inbox and any separate "Unverified" or filtered message folder — some phones automatically sort these messages out of your primary thread.
If you are expecting an OTP and cannot find it, check the filtered folder before requesting a new code.
If you are unsure whether a message is genuinely from Spacetalk, check your account activity in the Spacetalk App or contact our Support team via live chat.
What Spacetalk is doing
We are completing the SMS Sender ID registration process. Once our application is approved, messages from Spacetalk will display correctly as "Spacetalk". We will update this article when registration is confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
Will this affect my ability to log in or verify my account? No. OTPs and verification codes will still be delivered and remain valid — they will simply display with the "Unverified" label until our registration is approved.
Is my account or data at risk? No. This is a telecom industry-wide registration requirement for sender names, not a security issue with your Spacetalk account.
How long will this last? This is temporary and will be resolved once our Sender ID registration is approved. We will update this article once that happens.
